De Montfort University in Leicester has become the first university in the UK to join the Association of Professional Sales via corporate membership.
It is under appreciated how much British universities and the wider education sector contribute to the British economy.
According to Universities UK, international students bring in around £25bn to the UK economy every year, but this doesn’t happen without hard work. Universities like De Montfort, which has achieved strong international growth in recent years, have dedicated recruitment teams who build links with students and their parents around the world to share the value and benefits of a UK university education.
As part of their professional and ethical approach to selling, the international recruitment team at De Montfort was keen to join the APS for three key reasons:
· They wanted to acknowledge the professionalism of their sellers in front of their academic community to help foster and develop important working relationships across the campus.
· Working in international markets – appealing to students and parents – they wanted to show their ethical credentials to build trust, and strong commercial relationships.
· And they wanted to be the first UK university to achieve Investor in Sales status with the APS.
For the sales team at De Montfort to gain the APS Investor in Sales award, more than 50 per cent of their sales people are required to pass the APS professional registration assessment.
During the test, each candidate is asked 40 questions about ethical, selling dilemmas. The questions relate to the anti-bribery act and common work-based scenarios that a seller might have faced in the past or could do in their future sales career. The test assesses a candidate’s ability to do the right thing by their customers and act in a consistent and ethical manner.
Graham Smith, Relationship Director at the Association of Professional Sales said: “It’s great to be able to welcome De Montfort University as the first UK university to join the APS via corporate membership.
“We look forward to a long and supportive partnership with De Montfort’s international team. Showing they are professional sellers who put ethics, standards and trust at the heart of what they do will be good for the university and most importantly its students.
“A big thank you to David Anthonisz and the International Office team at De Montfort University who have welcomed the APS to work with them.”
